Great Mis Tor Circular Walk - 27th May 2023

 May Bank Holiday Saturday, and a stunningly sunny day, so a small select group of seven ventured out on a delightful and leisurely walk from Four Winds car park.  After a brief visit to Little Mis Tor, we all clambered up onto Great Mis Tor in search of the 'frying pan' which as the pictures lay claim to, we found.  After crossing the River Waltham at Dead Lake, the peace of the day enforced a lunch brake - where feet were dipped!  As the hear increased, our walk back past Roos Tor and Great Staple Tor became a challenge, albeit a pleasant one.  After braving the road across Merrivale Bridge, we escape the cars and viewed the stone rows before our return to the car park.  A lovely 7.5 mile trek in great company and through God's wonderful creation!

Ridges and Valleys Walk - 15th April 2023

 Spring has come and it's a day for walk on God's wonderful earth!  Seventeen of us set out from the delightful village of Belstone and ascended Belstone Tor, where an Irishman's Wall attempted to halt us before we strode along the scenic ridge to Oke Tor - a good spot for lunch!  From here, Nick and Sammy departed for their epic two day jaunt, while us mere mortals took track and military roads around to East Mill Tor, where a second lunch stop was called for.  There is was a tromp north. visiting a swimming spot on the East Okemont River, and a dance with the Nine Maidens Stones before our 9.5 mile walk came to an end.  Great day, great company, and stunning views.

Tors, woods and Pools

 On a cold day in early March a godly group of intrepid walkers gathered in the Leeden Tor Car Park for a walk that proved to take in much diverse scenery.  A quick ascent to Sharpitor and then to Leather Tor took us to an exciting descent towards Burrator reservoir.   From here, a series of delightful woodland paths took us eventually once more onto open moorland and a visit to Crazy Well Pool.  We found the Devonport Leat and followed it down stream to the aqueduct, from where another climb took us to Black Tor with its Logan stone (just!).  Our final ascent took us up to Leiden Tor from where it was all downhill back to the car park.  It was a delightful day with evidence of the artistic beauty of our Creator everywhere to be seen; and the lovely company to enjoy it with. 

Mustard Seed Walk - Cowsic Stones - 4 Feb 2023

 Simon Dell, that legend of a man kindly led our band of 16 around the old stones carved over 200 years ago by the Reverend Bray.  Quirky yet peaceful, idyllic and thoroughly interesting was Simon’s talk as we clambered, climbed and strolled around Beardown Farm - thank you Harry the farmer. 

New Years Day 2023 Walk - Feather Tor and Pew Tor

 Our New Year's Day walk, this year taken on 2nd January, caught a day of warm sunshine and calm between the gales and rain that we had been battling!  Our walk from Pork Hill car park took a figure of 8 shape to Feather Tor and then Pew Tor.  The walk attracted families, friends and new friends, and even a friend who brought his tramper!

What a great way to start 2023, and we look forward to many excellent walks in God's wonderful earth this year.

Mustard Seed Walk - Pupers Hill

 A great day out with ten of us marching out from Shipley Bridge in the Autumn sunshine, destination Pupers Hill.  After a short stroll up the drive, stopping for a look at Brentmoor House ruins, we went wild and headed through the old Bracken to Dockwell Ridge. Picking up the track around Gripper’s Hill, we soon had Pupers Hill in sight. As we ascended, so the sky clouded over and it got a mite chilly. The rocks at Pupers gave so protection from the wind for lunch before we descended to Huntingdon Cross and back along the Abbots Way the the Avon Dam, from whence it was a gravity assisted stroll back to Shipley Bridge. A great walk in lovely company and magnificent Autumn colours that only an artist after the Creators own skill could achieve! 

MUSTARD SEED WALK - 8th October 2022 - Dr Blackall's Drive

 Our Mustard Seed Walks group took advantage of the fine autumnal weather to enjoy a seven mile walk down Dr Blackall's Drive and down the the River Dart.  What goes down must come up unfortunately and the second half of our walk was spent regaining the height we had lost in the first half - a fine example of the exchange of energy: potential, kinetic, thermal, chemical etc.  But what a lovely walk in God's beautiful creation with excellent company.
